I Passed!

Hey all
Just want to give a quick update on school and what I been researching. So I have taken two tests so far in school and I passed. I’ve been doing really good and learning tons. I recently learned my hair type now I did not learn this in school I researched. My hair been very dry lately and it’s been falling out because I just had a baby 3 months ago and that’s what happens. The hormones regulating again affects the hair growth. The technical term for this is called postpartum alopecia (al-oh-PEE-shah). Alopecia is abnormal hair loss. (This I learned in school.) So with my postpartum alopecia and my dry hair it’s just been a mess so I’m trying out something new. I’m staying away from chemicals like hair products and going to use a sulfate free shampoo or a more natural hair cleansing method as well as a deep coediting treatment. I read up on natural oils that are great for hair and helps stimulate hair growth. I will post up the new changes over time and what methods I come up with I will start this on the first of the month so that will be October 1st.
Like I said I will keep your guys posted on what worked and what didn’t for me. Maybe it will help someone out there in the same situation or just want a change in their hair care routine and more natural take on it.
This is a pic of my hair now in its natural state nothing in it just washed and air dried
I will post more pics after I start my treatment.
If anyone wants to find out their hair type this is the website I found just compare and read see which one matches you. Remember you can have more then on hair type. Click here for the site

Missed My First Class!

Hey Everyone,
So I been meaning to blog before the new week started, but this past weekend I was sick and I couldn't even focus. I even missed my Saturday class. I take classes Monday through Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. And when I miss a class it’s kind of tough because I have to make up the hours of the day I missed. Since I take evening classes I have to make them up during the day which is very hard for me to do.
Ok so on to what I’ve learned so far. I did my first razor cut. For those who don’t know a razor cut is a haircut done with a razor it leaves a nice texture and body to the hair. However it doesn't work well on all hair types. People with curly hair should not get a razor cut because since the hair is cut on an angle it tends to make the hair look unhealthy and damaged. People with medium density hair are best for this type of hair cut because it’s not too fine and not too thick. I’ve notice I like to cut hair I find it fun and I enjoy it a lot.
I did the razor cut on my manikin Sam. I think it came out ok we just did a basic cut didn’t do any style yet and I blow dried it after the cut.
You can kind of see it leaves a texture to the ends of the hair.
Here is the side view.
And here is the back view.

Another style I learned is a doobie wrap. the concept seems easy enough you basically wrap the hair around the head. You can do this offer you do a roller set or blow dry your hair straight and it supposed to make it extra straight and make the blow dry last longer. It was kind of tough to do but I got the hang of it. The hardest part is to keep the middle of the head from tangling up. I did the doobie on my manikin Dionne.

That swirl in the middle of the head is the hardest part to maneuver. once you got that down the rest of the wrap is easy.

Till next time guys. Buy!

State Board Set.

Hello Everyone!

So, I am in week three of school and we were talking about salon business and we are practicing on the state board set. Now the state bard set is the last part of the state board test. If you don’t know what the state board test is; it is the test you take for your state to receive your cosmetology license. The state board test consists of a written test and a practice session. In this session you have to demonstrate different haircuts, blow dry, three different curls using a curling iron, how to hot comb the hair, and the last thing is the state board set. The state board set consists of showing four different techniques on one head. Splitting the head in four the front has a four piece roller set, the right side is a set of pin curls; the left side is a set of cold wave rods and the back of the head we have to do finger waves. I took pictures of my set I will also have a description of what the item and style is.
So as you can see here the head is split up in 3 different sections. The center section is used for the four rollers going down the head.
The right side of the head is used for pin curls. Pin curls are another way of curling the hair. It’s done by taking sections of hair and rolling them up clock wise and counters clock wise pinning them at the ends. When they dry and are released it make a really nice curl.
The left side is used for cold wave rods. Cold wave rods are used as another form of permanent waves. You would use a piece of tissue paper called hair wraps for the ends of the hair to protect and keep the ends in place. And wrap the hair around the rod with the paper. Now you would use chemicals with it so that it would make the curls more permanent.  But this is just a demonstration. That’s why the tissue paper is used around the base and face to protect the client’s skin form the chemicals.
The last thing on the set is the fourth section and that is used to demonstrate finger waves. Now this technique was very difficult and confusing to get the hang of. It looks so simple when it’s complete. You need lots and lots of gel and basically maneuver the hair pinching between your fingers to make the wave shape. Once I got the hand of it became easier to do. My teacher was impressed how quickly I got it. It takes some students a while to get it correctly. I was pleased at myself. When you reach the ends all we did was pin it up using pin curls.

Once again guys hope you enjoyed my info on the state board set. Till next time guys, Buy!

Survived The First Week!

Hey all! So, I survived my first week and I am now in week two. Yay! I'm still trying to master the dreaded roller set. I will get them with practice. Today I actually learned the proper way to blow dry hair. And believe me there is a wrong and a right way. Over the weekend I tried to blow dry my manikin Debra's hair and it came out so much different from when I did it with the techniques shown to me today. I will show you some pictures of the difference.

Up above are two pictures front and back of the blow dry I did at home. Before I learned the proper way to blow dry as you can see it stood very frizzy. Parting the hair properly is a big key to a good blow dry. As well as drying the ends slightly so that the hair is not dripping wet. The way your hold your tools is a big help as well.

Now look at the difference. This one obviously was done at school with the proper teachings. It came out so much better. Fewer frizzes and the front have way more volume and style. All I needed to complete this look was some shine spray or serum. But this was just a learning process so we didn't have to focus on that yet. But this came out great I’m very pleased at the difference.

I hope you enjoyed my tidbit on blow drying. If you guys want me to show you the techniques I learned and how to properly part hair and blow dry let me know in the comments please. I will blog step by step on how to do it.
Also I have to go shopping for more supplies so coming soon will be a mini haul on my goodies I will be buying from the beauty supply store.
Till next time guys, Buy!

Update and Rollers.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to do a quick update and share what I’m learning so far. So I’m in day 3 of school and it’s been great. We had cut hair for the first time (on a manikin of course). I thought it was going to be hard but it wasn't I got the hang of it pretty quick. Today I did rollers and surprisingly that was harder than the hair cut. All this hair styling and cutting is new to me. I was always focusing more on my makeup so learning all this new stuff is fun. I can’t wait till I master it all but for my first time doing rollers I think I did ok.
This is my manikin Debura and the rollers I put on her.
Then after we put the rollers we had to tease the hair so I did an updo.
This is it from the back I didn't have the right clips to hold it so I used what I had available.
like I said before this week’s been great I’m learning a lot and I’m loving that I’m actually doing what I been wanting to do for a long time.
Till next time guys, Bye!

My First Day of Cosmetology School

Hey Everyone! So today was my first day of school. I was so excited. It felt right to follow my dream and take my first step. So today the class discussion was on makeup and it was awesome. I knew most of the stuff they discussed. It was basically the basics. What is eye shadow we went over brushes and pencils. My classmates were great and easy to get along with. All in all it was a good day. I got my big suitcase of beauty products. And when I say big I mean huge. This thing is like thigh high and it weighs like a ton. Of course i'm over exaggerating but it is heavy. If anyone is wondering I am attending the Robert Fiance Beauty School. Here are some pictures s of my cosmetology bag.
So this is my bag as you can see its pretty big. It looked like i was going on vacation strolling it around.

And here i have all my item. A blower, 3 manikin heads, rollers, nail polish, grooming kit, brushes, flat iron, curler, my shears, and text books.
Till next time guys. I hope you enjoyed and if you are looking into a school should try Robert Fiance. I did research and this school was the best out of the ones in my area click here for the website if you wish to check it out.
